Heading to Gothenburg!

Yo, yo, yo! It’s nearly summer and it’s nearly time to get back on the boards! Swedens still a little chilly but it’s slowly warning up.

I’m sat in the car with Neil driving and we’re on our way to Gothenburg to pick up a new board… A 12 hour round trip… You gotta travel a long way for a good deal in this country!!!

Be back soon/ Andyc

Öland August 2014

Wow, wow, wow! What a cool few days!!

Neil, Charlie and myself headed down to Öland for the ‘last sail of freedom’ before we headed back to work on Monday. We booked a ‘Stugor’ (Cabin) at Haga Park Camping for one night. We planned to just do night and then head back, but ended up staying for a second night as the predictions for the weather and wind on the final day was so good.

I dont recall the place we stayed at for the second night, but I will ask Neil to post the location and info as its the best place to stay if you are sailing at Haga Park. It was cheaper and much more modern and fresh than Haga Park Camping… so we totally recommend it!

Charlie was out in the mornings and when the wind dropped, then Neil and I headed out in the afternoons. I just love this place… love the water and love the people. It really reminds me of the early days of sailing down at Portland Harbour in the UK… chilled, relaxed and safe!

I was blasting away on my 7 metre sail, using the carbon board. The wind didnt really get up enough to get out the small board and smaller sail, but I still have lots of fun!

Charlie can now sail, on his own and do a turn… really great work! Amazing what a year can do… last year it was hard for him to get the sail out the water, now its easy… i am a proud Dad! 🙂 (Heres a few pics!)

Gotland July 2014

I headed over to Gotland with the family. We have some great friends there and I decided to put the board on the roof.

We mainly stay in Lau, a small farming village on the South East of Gotland… I found the most amazing spot just 15 minutes away. It was straight on the water, no one around and clear open wind off the ocean.

The Pindrop is the beach! I recommend it if you are on the Island and have a North or South Easterly wind!

Öland June 2014

We did a DAY TRIP down to Öland to see if it was worth doing. Im getting really disappointed with the Stockholm locations, it seems to be a lot of driving and hunting for places that often offer long walks to the beach and gusty conditions. The idea is that maybe its worth just heading down to Öland every now and then, rather than regular hunts for spots around Stockholm?!

Anyhow… its was a good (but long) day and the wind was ok. But definitely worth going for a few days as a 4.5hr drive is pretty harsh! 😉

We’ve been a little slow this year in updating the blog and keeping current on the events! I had a little girl late last year, so this summers been busy with family life…. but we managed to get out on the water a few times!

I’ll post new posts for each outing… just to keep the diary up to date.

Tip Top Tofta

What a spot! On the upper west side of Gotland lies a little village called ‘Tofta’, which has the most wonderful beaches and clear seas I’ve seen for a while! Perfect for westerly winds and also perfect for waiting away a sunny day.

I headed down there last night and again this morning. This morning there was no wind, so we took some food and coffee at the beachside cafe… Really chilled place.

When there’s no wind you HAVE to try the local beers right? So the afternoon was spent in Visby… In a beer garden. This windsurfing is a tough sport at times! 🙂 Andyc
